Microdermal anchoring is still a fairly new procedure and few studios within the UK are offering this type of body modification.

The jewellery can be placed in as many areas that a surface piercing can be and even in some places that a surface piercing can't. The success rate is much higher than that of surface piercings and swelling is minimal.

It is seen as a cross between a piercing and an implant and should be treated as a permanent modification. The jewellery consists of a base plate with drilled holes and a short post with an internal thread, which allows for many types of top plates to be placed. The base plate is placed underneath the skin with the post protruding through the skin. The drilled holes in the base plate allow for the skin to grow through, which aids in the anchoring of the jewellery.

A wide range of top plate jewellery is available, from bevelled and claw set gems to plain flat disks and even spikes! Many different sizes of top plate are also available.
